University of Ottawa Students Recognized Nationally by Hazelview For Future-Proofing Residential Dwellings
Toronto, May 13, 2022 - A group of students from the University of Ottawa launched an initiative that enables local, community-led plastic recycling by manufacturing and operating systems that allow individuals to recycle plastic without the need for expensive municipal infrastructure.
Enactus University of Ottawa was awarded the 2022 Hazelview Sustainable Cities Project Accelerator Best Project title at the 2022 Enactus Canada National Exposition Opening Ceremony Tuesday.
This past year, thanks to Project Poly, 600lbs of GHG emissions have been avoided and 45kg of waste has been diverted. Enactus UOttawa also started working with Hazelview to bring a Poly system and pop-up program to a building in Ottawa, allowing for local diversion of plastic waste and residential engagement opportunities.
“At Hazelview, our vision for sustainability is to foster happy, healthy, thriving communities where we operate,” says Ugo Bizzarri, CEO at Hazelview. “That’s why we were so thrilled to partner with Enactus Canada and launch the Hazelview Sustainable Cities Project Accelerator. We believe that to meet the future needs of a sustainable real estate sector we need to work on solutions today, which includes investing in education and support for students innovating for solutions. Working hand-in-hand with Enactus students to deliver impactful results has been an extremely rewarding experience for our team members,” continued Bizzarri.
The Hazelview Sustainable Cities Project Accelerator is designed to empower Enactus teams with the resources needed to identify, create and deliver projects that make urban residential buildings more sustainable, energy-efficient, and future-proof.
The Enactus Canada National Exposition unites hundreds of delegates including the country’s brightest university and college students, academic professionals and top Canadian CEOs to enable progress by supporting entrepreneurial action through competition, recognition and education.
